Alivia McKinney and Molly Mulqueen, two speech language pathologists at HCR of Leawood, have been working with LTC residents Clyde and Lois on voice techniques. The goal is to increase their loudness levels in conversation so that they can actively participate and socialize with others.

During their treatment sessions, the couple shared their passion and love for attending their church and the roles they played at the church in the past. Clyde's passion is preaching, and Lois loves the worship music. Living in LTC, Clyde and Lois do not regularly attend physical services at their church.

Recently, Clyde was invited to give the message at his church’s Sunday services, where a library was also named in his honor. Molly and Alivia helped prepare Clyde to give his sermon and Lois to socialize with her friends and sing along with the choir. Alivia even got to attend the church service on Sunday morning to support them and hear Clyde preach the sermon that his SLPs helped him work on during therapy at HCR of Leawood.

Tears were shed, both by the couple and Alivia, at the sweet moment they were able to share together. This moment is a direct example of what it looks like when our therapy departments are actively implementing OneClinical programs and holistic approaches to dignify LTC in the eyes of the world.
