Celebrating the Olympics in Arizona!

By Tory Lane, Bandera Therapy Resource, AZ

Horizon Post Acute in Glendale, AZ, kicked off the summer Olympics season with a huge bang! Spearheaded by Delaney, the PT at Horizon, and the entire Therapy group, the events gave residents at Horizon the chance to go for gold! They held competitions with patients in events like wheelchair badminton, wheelchair races, sports trivia, a reaching event where the residents had to collect rubber ducks from a kiddie pool with reachers, and ball pong!

The Horizon team held the event in style, too! They all dressed up in their best American gear and led a super fun event for the residents at Horizon Post Acute. Thank you to Abby, Delaney, and the entire team for taking such great care of our residents and for helping them celebrate the Olympics!

The staff at Montecito Post Acute in Mesa, Arizona, hosted their first-ever Olympic Opening Ceremony approximately 30 minutes before the start of the actual Paris Olympics’ Opening Ceremony on July 26, 2024. The event commenced with three of our long-term care residents entering a packed dining room of patients as they carried the Olympic torch, played the Olympic theme, and energized the audience with their patriotic chants.

Our PT Kyle Higgins, in his very patriotic outfit, led the large gathering of dedicated staff and patients in adaptive, guided exercise games. These games included The Sit to Stand Off and Simon Says Exercise Extravaganza. The attending therapists guided their patients to ensure that they safely participated in this group activity while having fun.

The event ended with an ice cream party provided by the kitchen while patients had the opportunity to watch the live opening ceremony in Paris. Many long-term care patients left the event feeling empowered and excited for the coming Olympic-themed games that therapy would be scheduling throughout the rest of July and August.
