At the Healthcare Resort of Colorado Springs, we kicked off February with a special Valentine's-themed activity titled, "Occupations I Would Love to Get Back To." Our creative OT, Tyler, came up with a creative way to engage our patients and get them excited about therapy. This activity isn’t just about rehabilitation — it’s about helping patients reconnect with the activities they love and the things that bring them joy.

By focusing on real-life activities that matter to them, like walking dogs, fishing, or playing with grandchildren, our patients are reminded of what they’re working toward. It gives them a renewed sense of purpose and hope, making therapy feel even more meaningful. It’s incredibly heartwarming for our team to see what really drives each patient — whether it's getting back to their home, regaining independence, or simply enjoying their favorite activities again.

How It Works:

The idea behind the activity is simple but powerful! Patients trace a heart-shaped template, cut it out, and write down one occupation or activity they’re motivated to return to. The patients then add these hearts to the Valentine’s Day wall, where they join other hearts filled with similar personal goals. This creates a visual display of hope, motivation, and shared dreams!

Occupational therapy is about so much more than physical recovery. It’s about reclaiming the activities that bring meaning to life. For many patients, that means getting back to hobbies and responsibilities or spending quality time with loved ones. With this Valentine's activity, we helped our patients focus on what makes life joyful and worth working for.
